Maleny, south east Queensland. A small town based on dairy cattle and tourists.
A quiet town - more like a village, really.
Then, we woke one morning to find that Woolworths were moving in. Not just in to town but right on the banks of the Obi Obi Creek.
There were two problems with this. The community thought the land was zoned open space. And the site was already taken - by a family of platypus.
We've lost our three year battle to stop Woolworths - but the fight is just beginning.
Over the coming weeks, we'll look at the fate of Maleny - and hundreds of other small towns and suburbs around Australia that are fighting the 'big two' supermarkets.
